A London Derby in Dublin Makes for Great ICC 2018 Action!

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea have been Premier League giants for the longest time, but the previous season has been nothing but a disappointment for their supporters as they finished outside the Champions League places.

However, both teams now face new eras in their history as new men take the helm and attempt to lead them back to glory. They will square off at the Aviva Stadium for an ICC 2018 game in preparation for a grand clash before the actual Premier League season begins.

One can see this as a preview of how these two teams will perform against Premier League competition. However, they might not want to expose all of their cards against their opponents before the Premier League season even started.

Regardless of the players they will field, fans of both sides will be able to gauge how their London rivals will be able to perform in the Premier League. It’s through this match that we will know if London will be painted Blue or Red by season’s end.

Talking Points

Premier League fans that will be looking at Arsenal vs Chelsea betting tips better consider the new tactics being implemented by Unai Emery and Maurizio Sarri.

The former gaffers of the Blues and the Gunners relied on the 3-4-3 and looked at their wingbacks for the width of attack. However, both Emery and Sarri veer away from the three-in-the-back formations brought about by Antonio Conte two years ago and are sticking with a traditional four-in-the-back formation. Both will use a high defensive line to constrict the opposition and force them to lose possession.

Signing Jorginho at Chelsea add more firepower to the team and increases their chances of winning at ICC 2018

Chelsea players with the new transfer midfielder, Jorginho.

However, the big difference would be the shape the two sides will have moving forward. Sarri’s Chelsea will use a 4-3-3 with the attacking play starting from the deep-lying midfielder. Jorginho, one of the best summer signings of the Premier League so far, will be a key player for the offensive and defensive integrity of the Italian’s tactics at Stamford Bridge.

Pairing Jorginho up with N’Golo Kante makes a very dangerous midfield that will allow some breathing room for Eden Hazard and the rest of the attacking core. However, we might not see the full-strength lineup of Chelsea in a friendly where the results matter little.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are slowly finding their way in the very attack-oriented 4-2-3-1 system that brought the Spaniard much success in Spain and France. The width will still come from the fullbacks, but the tactic will focus on Mesut Ozil’s talents as the playmaker in the middle of it all.

Arsenal are expected to continue showing great performance in ICC 2018 against their London rival

Arsenal celebrating their win against PSG

They have already produced some results that take the front page ICC news sites. In particular, the 5-1 result of their match against PSG was a pleasing result for many of the Gunners faithful. While the top dogs of the Parisiens weren’t present to play, the fact that they easily overpowered this team without their full-strength squad is also encouraging news for the club.

This might also be the first time we will see Lucas Torreira play in an Arsenal shirt against a tough rival. Supporters already look forward to his leadership after making his mark during his first Arsenal training session. The €30-million acquisition from Sampdoria will be a wall that Chelsea will find hard to crack if he suits up for this friendly.

While this match won’t mean anything other than finding the form of the players, this will be a matter of pride for the fans. They expect their club to come out on top against their London rivals, and their presence in Dublin should make this game a lot more interesting.

These two sides have a long history of matches, and Arsenal have always been the better club before the club’s acquisition by Russian billionaire and oil magnate Roman Abramovich in 2003. Since then, the Blues have won or drawn more of their league and cup ties with the Gunners.

However, last season was a complicated mess for Chelsea. Antonio Conte struggled to get Chelsea in top form against Arsenal, losing the Community Shield and the League Cup replay. Their Premier League matches were draws, the last of which was a 2-2 tie, with Hector Bellerin salvaging a point in the game’s dying minutes.

Both teams have performed well in the preseason, so it’s tough to tell which side will come out on top. Arsenal’s most impressive result was an 8-0 thumping of National League side Boreham Wood FC. I imagine that game was more of a pleasant picnic just north of London. Meanwhile, Chelsea secured wins against Perth Glory and Internazionale.

What are the odds?

us predictions see this game as a close contest, but everything depends on the players both managers will field. If one of the bosses deploy a stronger squad, then there should be no question on which side will win the game.

Arsenal are obvious favourites after stomping PSG’s second squad. The 1X2 market offers 2.33 if you think the Gunners will win the game. However, Chelsea are at 3.45 if you think Jorginho will finally be able to connect to his team-mates and help them score goals with his chip through passes.

This game has the makings of a low-scoring game, but I wouldn’t put it past Unai Emery’s squad to do what they did against Paris Saint-Germain. Over 3.00 Goals is at 2.07. Over 1.25 Goals under the First Half Over Under market is also a tempting buy at 2.11.

A Serie A Question: Can Anyone Outscore Ronny?

It’s been the biggest story in the football world this summer, and the hysteria isn’t about to die down any time soon.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in Turin sent waves of excitement cascading through many Serie A fans. One of the two best players in the world, and a Champions League winner, is about to light up Serie A 2018 news, and the football-mad country can’t wait.

Following Ronaldo’s €120-million switch from Real Madrid to Juventus, the mood in Italy has reached fever pitch. He’s just started training with his new team-mates and so now the reality is setting in.

That’s all very well for the Bianconeri faithful of course, but the other 19 teams in the league have the challenge of stopping him. And then the top clubs must be wondering if one of their players can even outshine him? The Serie A 2018 odds say he’s the favourite to score the most goals in Serie A, odds-on in fact.

But the best football bets aren’t always the favourites, and there are plenty of sharpshooters in Italy ready to take on the top man. The Serie A Capocannoniere was shared last season by two real hotshots, Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi and Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, so where better to start if we’re looking for someone to outgun Ronaldo.

Serie A top scorers of last season will find better challenge in Cristiano Ronaldo

Mauro Icardi, Ciro Immobile, Dries Mertens, and Edin Dzeko are ready for challenge by Cristiano Ronaldo

Mauro Icardi: Inter Milan

2017/18 – 29 goals

The top us tips will take a very close look at the early season form of Mauro Icardi after he bagged 29 goals last season to share the Capocannoniere. In the most dramatic climax to the 2017/18 season, Icardi scored an equaliser as Inter grabbed the last Champions League slot, right from under the noses of Lazio.

He’s already been on target in pre-season and looking as sharp as ever. And he may have another sniper alongside him as Inter prepares for another big season.

Young Lautaro Martinez has arrived on an undisclosed fee, catching their attention with 22 goals from 48 appearances for Racing Club, after he was rewarded with his debut for Argentina at the age of 20. He’s one for the future, but we could see fireworks if he links up well with Icardi.

Ciro Immobile: Lazio

2017/18 – 29 goals

The Lazio man, a long-time favourite to pick up the top scorer mantle last season, not only had to watch Icardi catch him at the last, but also saw his own hopes of a Champions League campaign dashed. That was hard to take after such an incredible season, scoring 41 times in 47 in all competitions, a record Ronaldo would be proud of.

Starting out life at Juventus, Immobile has developed into an Italian international and a lethal predator; an all-around striker with two great feet, a turn of pace, strong in the air and with a clinical finish. He’ll be there or thereabouts again this season.

Dries Mertens: Napoli

2017/18 – 18 goals

Thirty-one-year-old Dries Mertens has been a major player in Napoli’s success in recent years and is regularly amongst the goals. Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri would like to take him to Chelsea but was warned off.

Mertens plays out wide, but then Ronaldo started his career playing more on the wing and drifting inside. It’s a role Mertens did so successfully for Napoli last, year and at World Cup 2018 with Belgium. As a developing player at Manchester United, it was four seasons before Ronaldo broke through the 20-goal barrier, and then as he was afforded a free role the goals flooded in.

Can Mertens similarly move into the limelight? Well, he has the ability but time isn’t really on his side. He’s still younger than Ronaldo though!

Edin Dzeko: Roma

2017/18 – 16 goals

For an outside bet, I’m looking at Roma’s go-to man Edin Dzeko; top scorer in 2016/17, but he had a quieter season last time out.

His 29-goal record season made him the first Bosnian player to be Capocannoniere. And with 16 last term, he still won his team plenty of points. A man for the big occasion, Dzeko famously scored a late equaliser for Manchester City in their title-winning match against QPR in 2012.

He’s a real handful at six-foot-four, very strong in the air, and equally deft with his feet for such a big man, But he really needs a fast start to keep up with the leaders.

So there we have it. Four players who could, if they have the near-perfect season, out-score Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s a monumental task when you look at his record. He’s the first man to score 30 goals or more in six consecutive La Liga seasons.

But this is Serie A.

Bale tipped to fill the void

Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui believes forward Gareth Bale is the man who will fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

The footballing world was shocked by Ronaldo's abrupt departure from Real after the World Cup in Russia and now Serie A champions Juventus can enjoy the fruits of his labours.

With such an iconic player leaving the Spanish capital, much has been made about who will step up and replace the Portuguese star.

The likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have both been linked with moves from Paris Saint-Germain however Lopetegui believes Wales international Bale can become the figurehead at Real for the seasons to come.

"Gareth is happy to play at Real Madrid," Lopetegui said.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the main players in the recent history of Real Madrid. He expressed a desire to leave and we allowed him to.

"Gareth Bale is a magnificent player, with so many qualities. He can help fill the void."

Real Madrid are 6/4 to win the La Liga crown next season, while Los Blancos are 13/2 to come out on top and win the Champions League once again.

Leeds snap up Bamford

Leeds United have been handed a massive boost ahead of the Championship season after securing the services of Middlesbrough forward Patrick Bamford on a four-year deal.

The Whites are thought to have splashed £7m to bring the former Chelsea starlet to Elland Road, with the player falling down the pecking order at the Riverside under Boro boss Tony Pulis.

Bamford had previously had loan spells at the likes of Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley in the top flight before joining Boro permanently in January 2017.

The 24-year-old, who has also won youth caps for England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, scored a hat-trick in his last meeting with Leeds and will be hoping to take that kind of form into the highly-anticipated new campaign.

Bamford becomes the fifth signing of the summer for Leeds, who are getting set for their first campaign with former Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa at the helm.

Leeds will kick-start their Championship campaign on Sunday when they welcome a Stoke City side that tasted relegation from the Premier League last term to Elland Road.

The Whites are 8/5 to win, 23/10 to draw and 13/8 to lose against the Potters.

Benfica Welcomes Lyon to ICC 2018

Benfica vs Lyon

Portugal’s runners-up meet Ligue 1’s third-placed team in the next ICC match-up, in what we expect to be a hard-fought contest.

Bruno Genesio’s Olympique Lyonnais makes a debut at ICC 2018 in Portugal, where Benfica vs Lyon is the big game at the Estadio Algarve.  And there’s not much to choose between the two teams.

Lyon are a late arrival in the ICC, having replaced Sevilla as the Spanish side is occupied by Europa League commitments. But Genesio’s team is well capable of living and thriving in this company.

Talking Points

This is a good opportunity for Rui Vitoria to fine-tune his Benfica line-up before a crucial Champions League qualifier against Turkish side Fenerbahce, who finished runners-up to Galatasaray last season.

It’s the first time Benfica had to qualify for Europe’s premier competition for years, having been champions for so long, but the new reality will hit home next week. In the meantime, Lyon will present a good test of where Vitoria’s team currently is.

His side has had a good pre-season so far, drawing against Italian champions Juventus and the Bundesliga’s biggest side, Borussia Dortmund.

ICC 2018: Alejandro Grimaldo performs well in pre-season vs Juventus and Benfica will need more from him

Alex Grimaldo celebrates his goal against Juventus

Alex Grimaldo scored a beauty in the ICC 2018 highlights the Bianconeri last week, and the £53-million-rated wingback could be a key player for the Portuguese side this season, assuming he’s still there on transfer deadline day. Liverpool were rumoured to be interested in the Spanish star earlier in the close season.

New striker Facundo Ferreyra, recruited from Shakhtar Donetsk, is likely to be rested having been taken off against Juventus after a nasty clash of heads. So Vitoria is likely to give experienced forward Jonas some game time, and it could also be a busy night for Benfica’s dependable defender Andre Almeida as he comes up against a confident Lyon striker in Memphis Depay.

With the Netherlands missing out on Russia 2018, Depay has had a longer summer break than most, and he’ll be itching to get back to competitive action after an impressive season last year. The Dutch striker has found his mojo again in France after flopping at Old Trafford, and he rounded off the season with a hat-trick against Nice to secure Champions League football for Lyon.

The former Manchester United man did have a painful moment in Lyon’s recent friendly with Huddersfield when he dislocated a finger.  But with that safely popped back into place, he’s ready to give the Benfica defence a tough examination with his pace and trickery.

ICC 2018: Lyon's Nabil Fekir might come back in their match against Inter Milan and Chelsea

Nabil Fakir addresses the press during World Cup

Vitoria’s men won’t have to face Lyon’s other big threat as there will be no Nabil Fekir on the pitch. The France striker’s proposed move to Liverpool is in the balance after doubts over his medical, and he is still on his way back from his World Cup triumph. He may return in time for Lyon’s next two run-outs in the ICC, against Inter Milan and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Rui Vitoria’s team has its big match with Fenerbahce to tackle.

The hosts have acquitted themselves well at ICC 2018. Benfica drew with Borussia Dortmund — which was no mean feat after the German side had already beaten Premier League favourites Liverpool and Manchester City — before the stalemate with Juventus.

Lyon warmed up with a win against Wolfsburg and a 4-0 thumping of Premier League new boys Fulham, as well as a defeat to Huddersfield Town

Head-to-heads are just in Lyon’s favour by two wins to one. The last meeting was a home win for the French side in a friendly in 2016, but the two teams did meet competitively in the group stages of the Champions league in 2010, winning one match each.

Both teams have won four of the last seven games in all competitions and come into this game in decent pre-season form.

What are the odds?

My goodness; this one is too close to call to make any ICC 2018 predictions with a great amount of confidence. There isn’t much to choose between the three possible results.

Our us tips have installed home side Benfica as favourites by the finest of margins; the Portuguese are at 2.54 while their French counterparts are at 2.64, with the draw out there at 3.25.

The Draw No Bet market has Benfica at 1.92 and Lyon at 2.00.

We think there will be goals in this game with Over 2.50 at 1.82, while Under 2.50 offers a bigger price of 2.08.

If you can’t take a pick, then get ready for another penalty shootout: the most likely scoreline is 1-1 at odds of 5.60, but how about 2-2 at 11.50?

We’ll see you back here at us with all the Benfica vs Lyon updates.

Pochettino unsure on Spurs arrivals

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he does not know if the club will be able to secure any signings before the start of the season.

The transfer window closes on 9th August and Spurs are yet to many any additions to the squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

With the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all spending this summer, there will be concerns Spurs could get left behind next season.

Pochettino has now revealed he does not know how man, if any, players will be arriving at the club before the new campaign gets underway.

"I don't know if we are going to sign or not. We're working on that," said Pochettino.

"I cannot tell you if we're going to sign one, zero, two or three or four."

He added: "We're working. It's true it's so close, the transfer window is so close, but the club's doing everything to help the team and add some players, more quality, and try to help us in the season to achieve what we want."

Tottenham are 16/1 to win the Premier League this season, while Spurs are 4/5 to finish in the top four.

NBA Watch: Potential Breakout Stars of the 2018-19 Season

Every year, the NBA and its players never fail to disappoint.

While the league is pretty predictable, there are still plenty of surprises every season especially from athletes who make the jump from being a solid starter to All-Star calibre player.

Of course, predicting those who are primed to make the leap to star status is easier said than done. After all, who would have thought that Victor Oladipo would make the All-Star team last year after he was traded to the Indiana Pacers from Oklahoma in exchange for Paul George?

That’s where lies the beauty of the NBA. You just never know who will surprise you every year!

Here at us, however, we tried our best to name five players (and five dark horses) who are well positioned for a breakout campaign this 2018/19.

Lonzo Ball, Los Angeles Lakers

Lonzo had a fairly underwhelming rookie season…that is if you consider the hype his father, LaVar Ball, created around him.

The second overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft actually showed great potential in his first season with the Lakers, averaging 10.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 52 games. In fact, his assist tally is second among rookies, only behind Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons.

Ball has all the makings of an elite defensive floor general; and with LeBron James now in the Lakers fold, he is well poised to increase his numbers and impact on both ends of the floor.

His atrocious 30.5 percent three-point shooting remains a concern, but if he can up that number even just by five percent, LA could dream of returning to “Showtime Lakers” once again.

Aaron Gordon, Orlando Magic

After being troubled by injuries last NBA season, Aaron Gordon looks to bounce back

Aaron Gordon throws down a dunk during the Magic’s game against the Lakers

Do you still remember that time last year when the Orlando Magic were at the top of the Eastern Conference? Those were good days indeed, and as basketball junkies know, it was Gordon who was behind that Magic rise.

The 22-year-old University of Arizona product had 11 games with more than 20 points, including a couple of 40-point outings; and with Orlando retooling—adding the defensive-minded Mo Bamba from the draft—it’s safe to expect Gordon to feature more on the offensive end.

Dejounte Murray, San Antonio Spurs

Coach Gregg Popovich has unofficially handed the keys of the Spurs offence to Dejounte Murray.

As you would have probably learned from the latest NBA 2018 news, the Spurs have let Tony Parker walk away and have recently traded Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for DeMar DeRozan.

With their first-choice point guard gone and face of the franchise out, Murray is now up to the task of developing into the team’s primary ball handler and floor general.

Murray averaged just 8.1 points, 2.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds in 81 games (41 starts) for the Spurs last season, but we predict him to at least double those figures in the upcoming season now that he’s in place to become a regular starter.

D’Angelo Russell, Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets is now in D'Angelo Russell's hands as he officially the cornerstone of the NBA franchise

D’Angelo Russell directs the Nets offense during their NBA game against the Magic

The Brooklyn Nets are now D’Angelo Russell’s team, and it’s time for him to step up and take the spotlight in New York.

Brooklyn traded Jeremy Lin recently, and that should open the way for Russell to become the team’s primary scorer and shot creator.

After missing almost half of the 2017/18 season due to arthroscopic surgery last November, Russell struggled mightily in his return and ended up averaging just 15.5 markers and 5.2 dimes. However, before his knee injury that required operation, the former Lakers guard was putting up 21 points night in and night out.

If he remains healthy this year, we should be able to see more of Russell’s offensive brilliance.

Dennis Smith Jr., Dallas Mavericks

It’s common knowledge in the league that Dennis Smith Jr. and rookie guard Luka Doncic are the cornerstones of the Dallas franchise. And with the Mavericks determined to develop them into All-Star players quickly, the two—specifically Smith Jr.—could be in for a great season.

Based on the latest NBA 2018 odds, the Mavericks aren’t expected to make it to the playoffs in the ultra-tough Western Conference. While that’s not good for the fans, it’s a great opportunity for Smith Jr. to grow and polish his shooting.

With Doncic beside him and Harrison Barnes predicted to be the usual offensive threat he is, DSJ could see a huge increase in his overall numbers—particularly on the ball distribution department.

Other notable breakout candidates worth watching: Jonathan Isaac (Orlando Magic), Jabari Parker (Chicago Bulls), Buddy Hield (Sacramento Kings), Frank Ntilikina (New York Knicks), Dante Exum (Utah Jazz)

Sky Blues ready to start Corica era

Sydney FC won't be taking lightly their FFA Cup clash against part-timers Rockdale City Suns, insists coach Steve Corica.

The Sky Blues are well aware of the quality the NSW NPL side have in their side, given that three of them are former Sydney players.

The Suns are coached by former Sky Blues midfielder Paul Reid and currently sit in fifth spot with nine wins and two draws from 19 matches.

Corica takes charge of his first game since replacing his former boss Graham Arnold as Sky Blues coach.

He won't want the defence of the trophy they won – along with the Premier's Plate – last season – to fall at the first hurdle at Illiden Sports Centre.

Rockdale's squad includes a number of former full-time pros, including Ante Covic, Daniel Petkovski, Trent McClenahan and Alec Urosevski.

Corica said: "We have to make sure we're ready and have done our homework on them – we've been out to have a look at them.

"We'll make sure the boys are ready. Physically they will have been back a month when that game comes so they'll be getting up to their peak fitness.

"Mentally they'll be prepared as well for a game like that … we want to do well in that competition and see if we can go back-to-back."

Corica's side, who beat Adelaide 2-1 to win last year's final, have won both their pre-season since returning from the Trade Port Super Champions Cup in China, where they had beaten Changchun Yatai 1-0 before losing to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua 2-0.

Sydney FC are 1/6 to beat Rockdale City Suns, who are 12/1 with the draw 13/2.

The Sky Blues are 5/1 to win the FFA Cup.

Reds imports in frame for cup debut

Imports Mirko Boland and Ken Ilso could make their Adelaide United bows when the new campaign opens with the FFA Cup clash against Central Coast.

The Reds host the Gosford club in the Round of 32 tie at Marden Sports Complex on Wednesday, hoping to extend the Mariners' poor recent record in the competition.

The two teams met in the semi-finals in the inaugural year of 2014.

But while Adelaide, who came out on top 3-2, went on to lift the trophy that season and made it to last year's final against Sydney FC, Central Coast have lost every tie they've played since then.

The Mariners have gone out at the first hurdle in both the past two years to part-time opposition, in the form of Green Gully and then Blacktown City.

Coach Marco Kurz may opt not to hand an immediate debut to Boland, who only arrived last week after signing from German side Eintracht Braunschweig.

Reds fans will be hoping to get a first glimpse of striker Ilso, who has been a prolific scorer with his last three clubs.

Ilso scored 35 goals in 51 games for Singapore side Home United, and then 15 in 18 outings for Kedah in Malaysia.

Skipper Isaias, who is another of United's five overseas visa players, said of the latest duo to arrive: "I think they're very good players, they're experienced players, they can bring us a lot of things.

"And I hope that they can help us on Wednesday but obviously it's a decision from Marco and hopefully we will reach the next round."

Ilso, who's signed on a one-year deal, became the second Danish player to arrive ahead of the new campaign along with Michael Jakobsen.

Adelaide are 9/20 to win their FFA Cup tie against Central Coast, who are 11/2 with the draw 10/3.
